25 Celebrity Gardens That Are Inspiring People Around The World

From the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to the White House Rose Garden, humanity has long made the most of its outside spaces. And for some celebrities, gardens are also a chance to show off: they might be stunningly beautiful, or bafflingly eccentric, or just have cost absurd amounts of money to create. Here are a few of the most brilliant and lavish of them all. Which A-list garden features do you want to steal for your own home?

1. Sofia Vergara

If you live in a mansion, then there’s a fair chance that your garden is going to be on the large side too. And when that garden is owned by a celebrity, then you almost expect them to light it up and show it off. That’s what actress Sofia Vergaras has done with her Beverly Hills home and the luscious greenery found just outside. The patio, chairs and tables mean that guests can enjoy their stay, especially when she uses fairy lights to turn it into a celebration space.

2. Oprah

Oprah also loves growing things, whether flowers or produce. She has a pretty impressive place in Montecito, California, not far from her friends the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that’s large enough to need a golf buggy to cross it. Then there’s her estate in Hawaii that supplies hundreds of pounds of herbs, fruit and veg across the island of Maui.

3. Nigella Lawson

British chef Nigella Lawson is more famous for her luscious recipes than her luscious garden, but a glimpse at her magical London home shows she has quite the green finger. A circle of trees and fairy lights surrounding a pergola create an enchanting centerpiece where you can sit and admire the surroundings. As for the flowers, Lawson herself described them as “tulips of preposterous plumage.”

4. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Delicate flowers may not be the kind of thing you associate with former wrestler turned movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but his very pretty garden is immaculately kept. What may fit his persona a bit more is the time he tore out his own garden gate after it was damaged in a storm. Let’s hope those neat hedges didn’t take it too badly.

5. Gordon Ramsay

It’s impossible to talk about the outside space around chef Gordon Ramsay’s home without mentioning the water, which is ridiculous even by the standards of most celebrity pools. Glass sides mean you can stand next to it and see right into the depths. That’s not all there is to this property, though, and the apparently endless grounds are laden with greenery.

6. Kourtney Kardashian

Kylie Jenner’s dazzling garden isn’t the only one linked to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kourtney has quite a display as well. No bulky trampoline looming in a corner and blocking the incredible views here, but instead one set level with the lawn. If you’re wondering just how big this garden is overall, well, it has space for an outdoor cinema, along with six sofas for its audience.

7. Christina Aguilera

Another celebrity home, another magical garden straight out of a fairy tale. Christina Aguilera has everything you’d expect from a celebrity garden, including the ubiquitous pool. It’s at night that the lights and balloons turn it into a truly special place. It’s still worth visiting in the day though, with quiet nooks and wind chimes to allow you to relax. Sometimes the quiet corners are even better than the ostentatious displays.

8. Geri Horner

Victoria Beckham isn’t the only former Spice Girl to have an impressive garden. Geri Horner, previously known as Geri Halliwell or just Ginger Spice, also has quite a countryside home. In fact, it’s almost a farm when you see the chickens and donkeys alongside the expansive hedgerows and beautiful flowers. It’s both pretty and practical considering all the edible produce she and the family grow.

9. The Beckhams

David Beckham was once one of England’s most famous soccer players., while his wife Victoria was in one of Britain’s biggest girl groups. They have a family-friendly garden to suit their children, with the white teepee providing a perfect retreat. Trees, grass and paths are perfectly lit by hanging lanterns. Son Cruz has been spotted enjoying the plunge pool.

10. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

Famous couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have everything they could want in the garden of their Beverly Hills home. The giant lawn means plenty of room for their children to drive a toy car or scale the climbing frame. Family picnics are a popular daytime past-time. See it at night though and it’s a different, magical world. That’s especially true when not one but a whole row of Christmas trees cast their lights over the pool.

11. Robbie Williams

He’s known for being a big personality both on stage and off, so we’d expect big things from Robbie Williams’ garden. Situated where they can get the perfect view of L.A., Williams, his wife Ayda and their family have masses of space. This means they have plenty of room for their gigantic swimming pool and the singer can join the children running, jumping and playing.

12. Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster

Singer Rod Stewart is almost as famous for his love of soccer as he is his musical ability. There are some normal features in the garden he shares with his model wife, Penny Lancaster, such as the greenhouse full of beautiful flowers. Then you follow him out the back and there’s a giant soccer pitch waiting for a kickabout.

13. Demi Moore

If you’re going to buy a home in Idaho then you probably want to get pretty close to nature. It’s not a state known for its bustling metropolises. Actress Demi Moore certainly seems to have embraced the wildlife that visits her rolling landscape of trees and grass, whether it’s rescuing an injured bird or watching the goat grabbing a snack right next to the building.

14. Martin Kemp

Martin Kemp is probably best-known as a member of British band Spandau Ballet, though he’s also had a career in acting and presenting. The home he shares with his wife Shirlie includes a magical garden unlike any other we’ve seen. Who else would set decorative fireplaces into their tree trunks? It also changes throughout the year, from “woodland whimsy” outdoor table settings inspired by fall leaves to a wintery Christmas grotto.

15. Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner, like her Keeping Up with the Kardashians costars, has earned something of a reputation for being ostentatious. That’s clear from her garden, which of course has its own pool. The pillows for the wooden sun loungers are luxurious and you can savor the scene with the help of dozens of candles glowing inside glass holders. There’s even a fire pit.

16. Piers Morgan

It’s fair to say that Piers Morgan can be a polarizing figure, but we have no qualms about praising his garden. Like so many celebrities he’s gone for the pool and the overlooking terrace. Both seem ubiquitous signs of wealth and success, but they’re also just great ways to enjoy and make the most of your space.

17. Elizabeth Hurley

British actress Elizabeth Hurley does have a beautiful garden with lawn, pond and gorgeous flowers. There’s also an impressive BBQ for entertaining guests. Plus, she has her own farm where she grows organic veg. And she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty herself, even pulling out a chainsaw on one occasion to get her trees shaped the way she wanted. Not that she let any of said dirty work interfere with her sense of personal style, you understand...

18. Catherine Zeta-Jones

Famous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is married to even-more-famous actor Michael Douglas. No wonder they have a regal garden with elegant wisteria surrounding an almost cozy terrace. There are flowers on the table too, but the real finishing detail is the ornate chandelier hanging overhead. Majestic indeed.

19. Cat Deeley

When presenter Cat Deeley moved back to her native U.K. from the USA, she made sure she picked a home with an idyllic garden. It’s a pretty good size, but the bushes and trees lining the edges create a more snug and private feel. If her sons want to bounce on the trampoline, enjoy a game of Swingball or play in the wooden boat then they won’t disturb the neighbors.

20. Mindy Kaling

You may have noticed that celebrities with kids sometimes put the beautiful parts of gardening to one side just to make sure there’s space to play. Mindy Kaling’s garden is dominated by one of the most impressive home playgrounds we’ve ever seen, but it still manages to be elegant. The incredibly detailed towers are linked by a swing and protected by an impressively high hedge for maximum privacy.

21. Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum is a supermodel, so she should have a good instinct for beauty. One of her favorite hobbies is exercising in her garden. Yes, her outdoor space has all the usual features such as a pool, and the space is truly massive, but what really makes it stand out is the absolutely astonishing view of Bel-Air. Imagine sitting outside for breakfast while watching the sun rise over those hills.

22. Jennifer Garner

Some of our celebrities have generous vegetable patches in their gardens or the occasional chicken, but Jennifer Garner has gone all-out on her actual farm. The actress regularly shares pictures and videos of the 20 acres in Oklahoma, a plot that was first purchased by her grandparents in the 1930s.

23. Murray McLauchlan

Who doesn’t dream of their own treehouse? It’s one of those things that captures the imagination and makes any garden more fun. So, if you’re highly successful singer-songwriter Murray McLauchlan with multiple awards for your music, then why wouldn’t you indulge yourself? This very long and green piece of landscape feels like it’s had little human intervention, but the ramshackle little treehouse is full of character.

24. David James Elliot

Some people with normal gardens go for a nice little pond. Most celebrities seem to need their own pool. A waterfall, on the other hand, isn’t an ordinary water feature by anyone’s standards. JAG actor David James Elliot can quite easily sit on the rocky ledge around the pool where the tumbling waters finally land. There are some pretty plants about too, and even a statue of a zebra.

25. Keith Moon

Some celebrities go for the fanciest of features in their gardens, but rockstar drummer Keith Moon never liked to be conventional. The garden of the late member of The Who appears pretty indistinguishable from a field with a wood next door, but there is at least one human addition. That’s a long trench just perfect for hiding in if you’re feeling a bit silly. Of course, the homes of the famous often tell us a lot about them. And that’s particularly true when one star sells their home to another celeb...

1. Lady Gaga to Elizabeth Jagger

This Hollywood Hills mansion was owned for 20 or so years by legendary rocker Frank Zappa, right until his untimely passing in 1993. Pop star and actress Lady Gaga got her hands on the 8,000 square foot property quite a while later, buying it off Zappa’s children. The mansion boasts a large swimming pool in the backyard, two guest cottages, and a sky-lit kitchen, among many other perks.

Model behavior

Gaga was no doubt attracted to the recording studio in the home, once dubbed “Utility Muffin Research Kitchen” by the eccentric Zappa. But for some reason the “Bad Romance” singer then decided to sell the place to the daughter of rock royalty, Lizzy Jagger. Yes, she’s the offspring of The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Unlike her father, Lizzy’s a model, so perhaps she’ll enjoy the landscaped gardens and bizarre submarine windows more than the recording studio.

2. Gary Oldman to Vanessa Hudgens

Former High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens moved into this stunning house in LA’s Los Feliz neighborhood back in 2018. She purchased the Georgian-style mansion near to the Hollywood Hills for close to $5 million from English actor Gary Oldman. The luxury home was actually built by legendary director Cecil B DeMille 100 or so years ago.

European feel

Oldman had put in 18th-century French oak floors, which Hudgens kept in place. Hudgens said to Architectural Digest that she loved “the old Hollywood elements” and the home, adding that its olive trees made her feel like she “had been transported to France or Italy.” Still, the actress has now moved on from the property, selling it to Ronan Farrow and Jon Lovett in March 2022.

3. Selena Gomez to French Montana

This five-bedroom, Mediterranean-inspired estate in Hidden Hills, Los Angeles, was once owned by pop princess Selena Gomez. But she then put it on the market in late 2015 for around $4.5 million. Gomez must’ve been eager to sell, though, as hip-hop star French Montana bought it at a knock down price of $3.3 million in early 2016.

Tidy profit

Montana would add a recording studio to the six-bedroom estate — which has a guest house alongside the main building — at a cost of around $400,000. He also had much of it redecorated in what he saw as less feminine colors. Montana himself then moved on during the fall of 2021, selling the mansion and its outdoor pool for $5 million, making a tidy $1.7 million profit in the process.

4. Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner to Zedd

If you haven’t heard of Zedd, we can inform you that he’s a producer and DJ. He must be a particularly successful one, too, as Mr. Z purchased this stunning five-bedroom mansion in Benedict Canyon for more than $15 million. Zedd acquired the futuristic property from Disney alum Joe Jonas and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner in 2021.

DJ station

Zedd made a bunch of improvements to the eight-bathroom, three-acre mansion after moving in, including adding some lights and a DJ station in the backyard. The property also boasts a swimming pool and spa. Still, Zedd would decide to put it up for sale himself in 2022 and at the time of writing is looking to take in around $23 million from the sale. Wowzers.

5. Charlie Sheen to Kendall Jenner

Back in 2012 the controversial actor Charlie Sheen purchased this expansive, Spanish-influenced Beverly Hills mansion for an undisclosed amount. It was reportedly for the Platoon star’s former wife Brooke Mueller. Sheen put it on the market, though, in 2017 and model and reality star Kendall Jenner stumped up a cool $8.5 million for the 6,625 square foot property.

Minimalist chic

While Jenner left the exterior of the property largely untouched, the Kardashian family member decided to rejig the interior. The model dispensed with the traditional look inside, replacing it with a more minimalist chic. Most notably, she added a large Marilyn Monroe graphic portrait. And you’d imagine that the eldest daughter of Caitlyn and Kris has had quite a few parties there.

6. Jesse Tyler Ferguson to Leonardo DiCaprio

This astonishing, Spanish colonial-style mansion in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles was owned by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his partner Justin Mikita. That is until A-List actor Leonardo DiCaprio stumped up more than $7 million for it back in May 2021, an increase of $2.5 million on what Ferguson and Mikita shelled out for the 5,000 square feet home in 2013.

A lot of love

DiCaprio’s certainly inherited a property that’s been given a lot of love, with Ferguson and Mikita altering things up in the four-bedroom mansion, aided by their set designer pal Peter Gurski. They weren’t the first celebs to own the gothic-style estate, either. Before them and DiCaprio, both Gwen Stefani and Robert Pattinson previously called the place home.

7. Sylvester Stallone to Adele

This super-mansion in the Beverly Park area of Beverly Hills was acquired by Rocky star Sylvester Stallone back in the 1990s. The American action hero was unsurprisingly smitten by the huge property overlooking Los Angeles, which boasts five bedrooms, a sauna, a gym, a pool, and a remarkable nine bathrooms!

Off to Florida

Yet the actor would sell the ginormous, 3.6-acre property to British singer Adele early in 2022. Stallone originally put it on the market for $110 million but eventually accepted just over half that. The “Rolling in the Deep” star secured the mansion for $58 million, while Rambo’s upped sticks to Palm Beach, Florida, as he nears retirement age.

8. Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner to Adam Levine

We bet you’d love to live in this Pacific Palisades mansion, reader. We certainly wish we had the keys to it. Alas, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine owns the humongous ranch — which spans 16,000 square feet on a plot of land covering more than 3 acres — and lives there with his supermodel wife Behati Prinsloo and their children. Lucky devil!

Gregory Peck

Levine and Prinsloo aren’t the first A-List celebs to live in the property, though. Far from it, actually. For starters, they bought the mansion — which features a gym and screening room — from divorcing actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner for $32 million in an off-market deal. Before them, Gregory Peck had owned the house in the 1940s and 1950s. At least Affleck and Garner made a tidy profit from their sale, having paid less than $18 million for it to producer Brian Grazer.

9. John Travolta to Scooter Braun

Hollywood superstar John Travolta lived in this huge Spanish-influenced estate with his wife Kelly Preston and their children from 1997 until January 2020. But a few months before his soulmate Preston would sadly pass away, the Grease actor sold the ten-bedroom, ten-bathroom mansion to controversial talent manager Scooter Braun. The representative of pop stars such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande parted with $18 million to buy the huge home.

Significant alterations

Travolta and Preston had made significant alterations to the home, adding four bedrooms and a bathroom for starters. They also built two new garages and a guardhouse on the property. Braun has three kids with ex-wife Yael Cohen, so ten bathrooms and bedrooms is perhaps overkill. But if you’re that rich, why not?

10. Ozzy Osbourne to Christina Aguilera

You’ll likely recognize this mansion if you watched a lot of MTV in the early 2000s. That’s because it belonged to Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon, and was featured on the popular reality TV show The Osbournes. The Black Sabbath singer bought the Beverly Hills mansion for a little less than $4 million back in 1999.

Long-running beef

But Ozzy and Sharon would eventually move on from the property, selling it to another celebrity: Christina Aguilera. Yes, Xtina shelled out more than $11 million for the 11,000 square-foot mansion back in 2008 and then spent big money remodeling it, too. This deal occurred despite the “Genie In A Bottle” singer having a long-running beef with Ozzy’s daughter Kelly. Perhaps a profit of over $6.5 million softened the blow for the Osbournes. Aguilera sold up herself in 2013.

11. The Weeknd to Madonna

This ultra-fresh farmhouse in LA’s Hidden Hills was owned by Canadian R&B star The Weeknd. The co-writer of “Can’t Feel My Face” purchased the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion in 2017. The Weeknd was the very first owner of the property, too, but in April 2021 he’d sell up to an even bigger pop star than himself.

Queen of Pop

Yes, the huge farmhouse would be bought from The Weeknd by Madonna. The Queen of Pop’s alleged to have parted with an eye-watering $19 million to get the keys to the 13,300 square foot property. Presumably she was attracted to the home theater, wine room, and five-car garage on the estate.

12. Tom Brady & Gisele Bündchen to Dr. Dre

This huge, four-acre mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles, was the home of NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen from 2008 until 2014. The power couple forked out just short of $12 million to acquire the 18,000 square feet property. But after more than half a decade living at the French-style chateau, they received an offer for it they couldn’t refuse.

Compton icon

That offer came from, ahem, the godfather of gangsta rap, Dr. Dre. The Compton hip-hop icon and entrepreneur shelled out $40 million to take the five-bedroom, nine-bathroom home off Brady’s hands — and got a lot for his money. The Richard Landry-designed estate includes a sauna, gym, library, a pool and, erm, a moat.

13. Calvin Harris to Charli XCX

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris bought this vintage, four-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion in the Hollywood Hills back in 2017. The “This Is What You Came For” producer shelled out around $7 million for it, taking it off the hands of fellow DJ Steve Angello in 2017. Harris would sell it himself in fall 2020, though, to another Brit and musical collaborator.

Recording studio

That collaborator would be “Boom Clap” and “1999” singer Charli XCX, who worked with Harris on his track “Yah Mean.” She purchased the house for a cool $5 million, almost $2 million less than Harris had originally paid for it. The prolific star will likely make good use of the recording studio, which is located in the adjacent guesthouse.

14. Amar’e Stoudemire to Rick Ross

Amar’e Stoudemire had a stellar career in the NBA, turning out for the likes of the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks. So it’s perhaps not a surprise that he owned a stunning mansion in Miami, which he bought while at the Heat back in 2011, for a cool $3.7 million. But Stoudemire’s since sold the 7,300 square foot home and its guesthouse.

Dollar bills

It was rapper Rick Ross who parted with the cash to buy the home. Quite literally, as it happens. Yes, in scenes reminiscent of Breaking Bad or Scarface (probably), the hip-hop star laid out ridiculous amounts of dollar bills and made a record-speed purchase, concluding the deal in a mere 96 hours. Wow!

15. Liam Payne to Halsey

One Direction star Liam Payne was lucky enough to own this five-acre estate in upmarket Calabasas. The main house clocks in at close to 10,000 square feet and contains a home cinema, library, wine cellar, and recording studio. Outside there are waterfalls, koi ponds, and even a vineyard. And the British singer made a stunning profit on the property in the first quarter of 2021, when he sold it to American singer Halsey.

Haunted?

Halsey paid Payne over $10 million for the estate and got quite a lot for her money. Besides the Spanish-style house with its five bedrooms and five bathrooms, she now had the keys to a full gym, a large swimming pool and a spa. The Fridman Group closed the deal between the two pop stars, with Halsey clearly not put off by Payne’s claims that the property was haunted!

16. Nicole Richie to Adele

Reality star Nicole Richie bought this beautiful Beverly Hills mansion back in 2015, presumably with a little help from her hubby Joel Madden, of Good Charlotte fame. A year later, British singer Adele moved in next door to Ritchie’s four-bedroom, four-bathroom property and the pair struck up a friendship.

Edible garden

Adele clearly felt some envy with regard to her neighbor’s house, as she ended up buying Richie and Madden’s home for a whopping $10 million in the summer of 2021. Not a bad deal for the couple, given they only paid a little over $6.5 million for it originally. Adele, meanwhile, added another 5,500 square feet of real estate to her growing portfolio. She can grow her own food, too, in the Richie-designed edible garden.

17. Justin Bieber to Khloe Kardashian to YouTube star Dhar Mann

Pop star Justin Bieber purchased this beautiful Tuscan-style mansion in swanky Calabasas back in 2012, parting with $6.5 million for the privilege. The “Sorry” singer bought it off the ex-wife of Eddie Murphy, Nicole. But a mere two years later Biebs would sell up himself, earning a $700,000 profit by passing on the keys to the 9,000 square-foot home to reality star Khloe Kardashian.

Calabasas record

Kardashian would spend a lot of cash and time putting her own stamp on the place, including black hardwood floors. But the third-eldest Kardashian sister decided to sell the 1.3-acre lot in November 2020 — at a substantial profit. YouTuber Dhar Mann would cough up $15.5 million to acquire the mansion, thought to be the priciest property ever sold in Calabasas.

18. Mike Tyson to 50 Cent

Boxing legend Mike Tyson’s had his fair share of legal and financial troubles over the years. The former heavyweight champion’s money woes became so bad at one point — Tyson was a reported $22.9 million in the red — that he was forced to declare bankruptcy back in 2003. Before then, though, “the baddest man on the planet” had lived in this huge, 52-room mansion in Farmington, Connecticut.

Indoor pool and tennis court

Tyson would have to sell his assets, then, to get back on track. And rapper 50 Cent was on hand to seal a bargain deal for the boxer’s most valuable asset: his Connecticut mansion. Fiddy would inherit a frankly ridiculous 21 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms, numerous game rooms, an indoor pool and tennis court, plus a recording studio. Amusingly, the mansion also came with an in-built nightclub. Perfect, then, for a guy whose biggest hit is “In Da Club.”

19. Jeff Bridges to Oprah Winfrey

Set upon four acres of expertly manicured gardens, this beautiful modern farmhouse in Montecito once belonged to actor Jeff Bridges. The Big Lebowski star purchased the Spanish Revival property in 2014 for a little under $7 million. But a mere five years later, he’d sell up and move, handing the keys to a famous and well-heeled neighbor.

Promised Land

That neighbor would be Oprah Winfrey. The star shelled out $6.85 million to take the property off Bridges’ hands. Chump change for her. Winfrey already had real estate in the area but was clearly enchanted by the mansion, built in 1919 by noted architect James Osborn Craig. It added four more acres to Winfrey’s “Promised Land” project, which contains around 70 acres of property and land in all. Wow.

20. Rihanna to John Legend & Chrissy Teigen

This stunning futuristic mansion in Beverly Hills was called home by Rihanna until early in 2016. The “Rude Boy” star then sold the seven-bedroom property to fellow singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen. And the celebrity couple would hand RiRi more than $14 million in the process.

New kitchen

Legend and Teigen obviously inherited a beautiful home but even so the pair set about making it their own. Teigen tore up the kitchen and had the front room ceiling re-modeled in hand-carved wood to reflect her Asian heritage. But after just four years there the power couple would put the place on the market in August 2020 for a little under $24 million. In the end, though, they’d settle for $16.8 million from an unnamed private-equity exec.
